Spring Forward

£125.00

Spring Forward was created during a period of close observation of seasonal change within the artist’s garden, where the slow retreat of winter gave way to the emergence of new growth. The melting of ice into soil, the first green shoots, and sudden bursts of floral colour informed the development of this work, capturing a moment of transition when spring feels newly arrived and full of energy.

Throughout the painting process, three central themes emerged: renewal, movement, and fresh possibility. These ideas are reflected in the composition’s sense of emergence and shifting atmosphere.

The vivid green tones are central to the work, evoking the vitality of daffodil stalks pushing through the earth and signalling the return of life after winter. The introduction of lavender tones evolved more unexpectedly during the painting process, offering a lighter, more atmospheric shadow than initially anticipated. The contrast between warm and cool hues suggests the fluctuating conditions of early spring, where sunlight and cloud can alter both temperature and mood within moments.

Mixed media on canvas, 2025.
