'Coil'
‘Coil’, acrylic and metallic leaf on canvas, 30.5cm diameter x 2cm depth, 2025.
‘Coil’ is a dynamic exploration of movement, strength, and resilience, inspired by the sinuous, powerful form of the snake. Painted using acrylic and silver metallic leaf on a circular canvas, the piece captures the tension between angularity and fluidity, mirroring the way a snake coils and propels itself against all odds.
The work reflects my longstanding fascination with the snake’s ability to glide rapidly and to consume prey far larger than itself- a compelling metaphor for perseverance and possibility. My brushwork deliberately adopts a square, almost pixelated style, allowing the bold, warm reds to remain vivid and unmuted, celebrating the richness of the palette without compromise.
